Village Cup Run Comes To An End

Our run in the Voneus Village Cup came to an end on Sunday as we lost to Patrington in the North Yorkshire (South) Regional Final.

Patrington CC

After winning the toss Patrington decided to bat first and opener Ben Butler was the star of the day, with the 22-year-old scoring his maiden first team hundred as he batted through the innings for 111 not out from 110 balls hitting 12 fours and 3 sixes. He was ably supported by fellow opener Connor McKinley (40) and number three Ashley McKinley (41).

Luke Hipgrave (3 for 53) took 3 wickets to dent the home sides flow, but hard hitting allrounder Jacob Duffill weighed in with 38 from 25 balls as Patrington scored an impressive 274 for 4 from their 40 overs.

In pursuit, some early boundaries and clean striking from the impressive-looking Jake Greenbank (48 from 37 balls) was the main highlight of the Earby reply. They failed to get to grips with opening bowler Ashley McKinley (3 for 29) whose three wickets dented the reply.

At 102 for 4, a middle-order collapse saw them dismissed for 146 with only George Gregson (22) showing any resistance as left-arm spinner Grant Van Es (2 for 36) and 16-year-old seamer Josh Ratcliffe (3 for 24) ripped through Earby’s batsmen.
